The Paper Room

IBAN Validator

Paste or type any International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and instantly check whether it is valid. The tool applies the ISO 13616 mod-97 check-digit algorithm used by banks worldwide, so you can catch typos before initiating a wire transfer. It recognizes IBANs from over 70 countries and automatically handles spaces, lowercase letters, and common formatting variations.

Once validated, the tool breaks the IBAN into its components: the two-letter country code, the two check digits, and the Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN) that follows. It also displays the formatted version with standard four-character grouping for easy reading and comparison.

Everything runs in your browser — no data is sent to any server, and no account or signup is required.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool verify that the bank account exists?

No. It validates the IBAN structure and check digits according to the ISO 13616 standard. A valid IBAN format does not guarantee that the account exists or is active — only the receiving bank can confirm that.

Which countries are supported?

The tool supports IBAN formats for over 70 countries, including all EU/EEA members, the UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and many others. If your country uses the IBAN system, it is almost certainly covered.

How does the mod-97 check work?

The IBAN is rearranged by moving the first four characters to the end, then every letter is replaced by its numeric equivalent (A=10, B=11, ..., Z=35). The resulting number is divided by 97 — if the remainder is 1, the check digits are correct.

Is my IBAN sent to a server?

No. All validation runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your IBAN never leaves your device.
