Frequently asked questions
How is fuel cost calculated?▼
In imperial mode: gallons needed = distance / MPG, then cost = gallons x price per gallon. In metric mode: liters needed = (L/100km / 100) x distance in km, then cost = liters x price per liter.
Can I switch between miles and kilometers?▼
Yes. Use the Imperial/Metric toggle at the top. All labels and calculations update automatically — distance switches between miles and km, efficiency between MPG and L/100km, and price between per gallon and per liter.
Does this account for city vs. highway driving?▼
No. The calculator uses a single fuel efficiency number. For a mixed trip, use your vehicle's combined MPG rating, which is usually listed on the EPA fuel economy sticker or your owner's manual.
